4 Days In Roma, Italia

If you’re new around here, hi! Welcome to my blog! My name is Diana, and I am a lover all of things holistic health, wellness lifestyle, and personal growth. My sweet husband and I just moved from the U.S. to Italia! So, now on my blog and Instagram I’m incorporating a lot more travel and lifestyle. You could say I’m a lifestyle blogger with an emphasis on wellness, travel, and happiness!

I was debating even writing this blog for Rome. This was actually my second time to Rome, and my husband's first, so of course we spent our days doing all of the Rome musts! There are actually so many historical sights, museums, and landmarks in Rome that you could easily fill a week's worth of days. We spent a quick long weekend over the fourth of July in Rome, to knock off one more destination from our Italy bucket list. I debated writing this blog simply because we only visited the famous sites, and did a little shopping, so I didn’t feel I had anything special or unique to share for this trip. But, what's the best part of travelling? RESTAURANTS of course! We did find some delicious ones, and we had a great experience at our hotel. So I thought I’d write it anywhere to share where we ate, and where we stayed (plus a few others).

Our experience was incredibly unique. We visited this historical bucket list destination just a couple of weeks after COVID restrictions were lifted and Italians were allowed to travel throughout the country again. Consequently, it was absolutely dead compared to it’s normal peak season. We went to the Vatican in the dead of the afternoon and were nearly the only people there. It was incredible, exciting, and sort of sad all at the same time. That said, if you’re planning a visit to Rome in peak season (summer) you will most likely wait in line for most of the historical activities. I highly recommend getting your tickets in advance. Just head to the website of your destination (for example the colosseum) and you can book directly. Also, it is hot in Italy in the summer, mainly July and August. We’re talking Florida August humidity and heat...hot! So just be prepared for that!

In this blog I’ll give you a rundown of what we did, but most important I’ll show you where we stayed, what villages are best to stay in, and where to eat.

We visited:

  • The Vatican Museum

  • The Sistine Chapel

  • The Vatican Basilica (of course!)

  • The Pieta

  • The Colosseum

  • Roman Forum

  • Palatine Hill

  • Trevi Fountain

  • Spanish Steps

  • The Pantheon

  • Piazza Novana

  • Via Condotti

Where to stay

My husband and I stayed at a random google maps pick of a hotel! Seriously. There are SO MANY hotel options in Rome that it is so overwhelming! After hours looking for the ideal hotel, we got a little fed up, searched “hotels” in the center of all the sites we wanted to see, and found Hotel 55. Guys. It was perfect for this trip! We were looking for a place that wasn’t too pricey (hi extreme panic travel post COVID, going literally anywhere and everywhere every weekend, hehe!), included breakfast, in a good location, with nice rooms. You could say we were looking for a unicorn, but Hotel 55 came through! The price is unbeatable, the breakfast is vast considering Europeans don’t really eat breakfast, the room was modern and clean, and the AC worked like a charm ;). We were literally 20 minutes walk from absolutely anything, and right in the middle of all of the shopping!

There are plenty of luxury resorts in the city center to choose from. Although, if you’re looking to be a bit more in the center of the local scene, try staying in Trastevere. It’s located a 20-30 minutes walk away from the city center, on the other side of the river. This is also considered the “foodie haven”  given the myriad of incredible restaurants in this area!

Other than that, you can’t go wrong with an Airbnb by the Vatican, or a more upscale hotel. Honestly, I don’t think you can go wrong!

Where to Eat

First off, you have to visit Salotto42 for an aperitivo cocktail (like Italian happy hour). The drinks are $10-$15 each and so delicious. The vibe is adorable, we just loved it!

For coffee, visit Sant’ Eustachio Il Caffe for a delicious coffee drink. Their menu is extensive, and worth a visit! Maybe it was the fact that we hadn’t been able to find cold brew in Italy yet, or we were hot as heck, this made for the most perfect mid-morning pit stop after the Trevi Fountain!

Venchi Gelateria is a famous spot as well. There are numerous around the city, and their gelato did not disappoint! I highly recommend the fig mascarpone.

Other than that, some great restaurants are:

And that’s it friends, short and sweet. I highly suggest filling your days with historical sights and museums, and filling in the extra time eating ;). These are the places we visited, and places I had saved in advance of our trip. I’d love to hear if you check any of them out in the future!

If you don’t follow me on Instagram, I actually have a “travel tips” story highlight where I explain how to use google maps to save places that you want to visit in the future, whether you have a trip planned or not! Click here to view that, go through these places and be sure to save your favorites! I’d love to hear which ones you end up going to! Never hesitate to DM on Instagram or shoot me an email here, I love hearing from you!

Once again, I hope you enjoyed this one!

XO,

Di
